Slash Pays Tribute To Guitar Amp Pioneer Jim Marshall

Luminaries of rock and roll such as guitarists Slash and Nikki Six have paid tribute to Jim Marshall - the founder of Marshall amplification - who was dubbed 'The Father of Loud'. Jim's amplifiers have been used by the likes of JIM HENDRIX and Kurt Cobain and offered rock musicians a different tone to the Fender alternative - it became known as the 'Marshall sound'.
According to BBC News, Jim had suffered several strokes in recent years and developed cancer at the end of 2011. Tributes have already been flooding in, with Guns N Roses guitarist Slash tweeting, "The news of Jim Marshall passing is deeply saddening. R & R will never be the same w/out him. But, his amps will live on FOREVER!". The guitarist's band have always favoured Marshall amps, as have Motley Crue, whose bass player Nikki Six told Twitter followers that Jim was "responsible for some of the greatest audio moments in music's history - and 50 per cent responsible of all our hearing loss".
Speaking to Radio Four's Front Row programme on Thursday (April 5, 2012), musician Paul Weller said he had a 40-year-old Marshall amp that still sounds "fantastic". Weller added, ""For me it's the exactly right amp for the job.I don't know if anyone's particularly improved on it, to be honest". Marshall amplifiers featured in the famous scene from spoof rock documentary This is Spinal Tap, in which guitarist Nigel Tufnel showed off his stack that could be turned up to 11.
