Sir Tom Jones Gets Lifetime Award

Sir Tom Jones received the Music Industry Trusts Award for his outstanding contribution to the music industry last night (01.11.10).

The legendary artist - who made his chart debut in 1964 with 'It's Not Unusual' - follows in the footsteps of artists including Sir Elton John and Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber by picked up the award after selling over 100 million records worldwide.

Sir Tom was presented with his accolade by film director Tim Burton, and admitted he was "delighted" to be joining the roll-call of artists honoured by the annual awards.

Among those who cheered Tom on in his award, included Sir George Martin, Michael Ball, Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon and Priscilla Presley.

He said: "2010 is shaping up to be a very memorable year for me. I'm delighted to be honoured with the Music Industry Trusts' Award and to join the roll-call of some great past honourees."

Hosted in aid of music charity Nordoff Robbins and the BRIT Trust, the 'Sex Bomb' singer performed alongside former Catatonia star Cerys Matthews - whom he collaborated with for 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' - and Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones at the event.

Priscilla Presley - daughter of Elvis, one of Tom's old friends - paid tribute to their close relationship, saying: "They would sing songs together and jam together, for Elvis to do that he really had to have a lot of trust in someone because he admired Tom's voice so much."
