Jimmy Savile - Sir Savile To Be Laid In Open Casket In Leeds
Sir Jimmy Savile's funeral will take place in his hometown of Leeds, UK on November 9th 2011, but fans of the DJ, radio presenter and television host will be able to pay their respects the day before as the late icon's body will be laid in an open casket in the city's Queen's Hotel.
Full details of the proceedings have yet to be released, according to What's On TV, but the Requiem Mass on the 9th is expected to attract hundreds ranging from family, famous co-workers, celebrities and fans of the man. Savile will eventually be buried at the coastal town of Scarborough on Thursday November 10th, a place he still reportedly loved and owned a flat at.
The star died on Saturday (October 29th 2011) after a spell in hospital for pneumonia, he was just two days short of his 85th birthday. Tributes have, unsurprisingly, been pouring in for the late personality, with former Bbc Radio 1 Dj Tony Blackburn telling the Bbc, "He was just a complete one-off. I think he was a bit of a lonely character as well. In the privacy of his own life I don't think he had very many friends," and going on to add, "I've never known anyone quite like him. He was a blunt speaking northerner, but also kind and very respectful." Dave Lee Travis meanwhile said "We are all going to be worse off without him around," and - in the highest profile tribute so far - Prince Charles was also full of praise in a statement released from Clarence House saying "The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are saddened to hear of Jimmy Savile's death and their thoughts are with his family at this time".
