Sir Paul Mccartney - Sir Paul Mccartney Writes Tracks For Standards Album

Sir Paul Mccartney was so concerned fans would confuse his upcoming album of classic standards with Rod Stewart's American Songbook records, he wrote two new tracks for the disc.
The Beatles legend has fulfilled his ambition to record an album of the songs he loved listening to as a child, but feared it would be too similar to Stewart's recent work, which includes five volumes of pop standards.
So he channelled the spirit of his heroes to write two tracks in the traditional style, which are included on the album, Kisses on the Bottom, which is due for release next month (Feb12).
MCCartney tells Uncut magazine, "I met (producer) Tommy (LiPuma) in New York and we started talking about this. I kept saying to him, 'The problem for me is everybody's doing it'. You've got Rod Stewart doing his American Songbook stuff and then he was doing another and another, Robbie Williams was doing one and somebody else would be doing it.
"And I just thought, I can't do that because it's just going to look - and in fact this album still may look like - 'Oh, here he goes, it's another person doing The Great American Songbook.' So our big challenge, we thought, was to try and do something else. So we talked long and hard about that... We thought that I could write a few songs, which you wouldn't find on Rod's record. So that might help distinguish it a little bit."
