Sir Paul McCartney has given Team Great Britain a big boost as they prepare to compete in the London 2012 Paralympic Games by sending athletes a special message of support.
The Beatles legend issued the words of encouragement hours before the Opening Ceremony on Wednesday night (29Aug12) and urged the British sportsmen and women to perform at their very best and go for gold.
The statement was posted as an image on his Twitter.com page, featuring a photo of MCCartney in front of a Union Jack flag holding up his signature peace sign.
The accompanying message reads: "All of us wish our UK teams in the Olympics and Paralympics the very best of luck. We hope they enjoy this great competition and create great memories for themselves and us all and at the same time bring home a bagful of lovely medals. All the best, Paul MCCartney."
Actor Sir Ian MCKellen and renowned physicist Stephen Hawking are among the stars expected to take part in the Opening Ceremony, which will take place at the Olympic Stadium in London.
