Elton John - Sir John Erected Chapel To Honour Late Loved Ones

Over the years the Rocket Man has mourned the loss of dozens of family members and friends and, as a way to cope with the constant sense of sorrow, the Aids advocate has erected a small religious place of worship at his home so he can grieve and celebrate the memory of those closest to him in private.

Sir Elton opened to doors to his sanctuary during a recently taped TV special with U.S. newsman Matt Lauer, which aired in part on breakfast show Today on Wednesday (18Jul12) and revealed, "I wanted to create a chapel to remember my family, my grandmother, people I've lost from Aids, dear friends who have died... and pay respect to the people that I loved... It's just nice to come in here and remember my life. And there's nothing better than a church or a chapel."

The marble chapel contains plaques dedicated to late screen legend Taylor, British royal Diana, fashion icon Gianni Versace, philanthropist Evelyn Lauder and his tragic keyboard player Guy Babylon.

The music legend also has a handful of memorials recognising those who have died from Aids, among them, former Queen frontman Freddie Mercury and Ryan White, an American teenager who contracted the disease during a blood transfusion and inspired the 65 year old to launch the now-famous Elton John Aids Foundation.
