Steven Tyler - Sinking Ship? Steven Tyler Quits American Idol For Aerosmith
Steven Tyler has quit American Idol, saying that he wants to concentrate on working with his band, Aerosmith. The rocker has been a judge on the show since 2010, and was due to continue for the 12th season this autumn, reports Bbc News.
His departure may be linked to Jennifer Lopez's comments this week, in which she suggested it was also time for her to move on. Though Fox bosses are thought to be keen on revamping the show, rumours had suggested that it would be Randy Jackson who would make way for Adam Lambert, with Lopez and Tyler remaining in their roles. The latter said he had thought "long and hard" about whether to continue, but added, "I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit.I strayed from my first love, Aerosmith, and I'm back - but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I've got two fists in the air and I'm kicking the door open with my band". Rivals such as 'The Voice' have spoiled the party for American Idol in recent years, which once dominated the reality singing show market. Simon Cowell's forthcoming 'X Factor Usa' will be its latest competition, and with the British mogul landing high profile judges likes Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, 'Idol' now appears to have it all to do. As mentioned, there are now huge question marks over the future of Jennifer Lopez, and the singer spoke to the Press Association about Tyler's departure, saying, "I can't even imagine anyone else there right now because I've just spent two years sitting next to him.I love Steven, and we became close during that time. We were a great support for each other, on an adventure that neither one of us knew what it was going to be. So it's hard to hear that he won't be doing it".
Should Lopez follow Tyler out of the door, Fox bosses will be forced to pull in big name replacements. Adam Lambert could freshen things up, though American Idol would probably need the likes of Katy Perry or perhaps Mariah Carey to match the competition.
