Singer-songwriter JOHN MARTYN has died, aged 60.
The British star passed away in a hospital in Ireland on Thursday (29Jan09) morning, according to his official website.
A statement on the site reads, "With heavy heart and an unbearable sense of loss we must announce that John died this morning."
Martyn was widely recognised as one of the most soulful and innovative singer-songwriters of his generation.
He released twenty studio albums in a 40-year career and worked with legendary artists such as Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, and Phil Collins.
He was recently appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours list.
No details on the cause of his death were released as WENN went to press.
