The musician passed away on Saturday (10Oct15) after collapsing in his dressing room prior to the De dominicana pa'l mundo concert in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital. A cause of death has not been released, but reports suggest he suffered a massive heart attack.

Echavarria was best known as the frontman of La Familia Andre band and was credited as the father of fusion, mixing elements of samba, jazz, rock and meringue in his music. His biggest hits included Pato robao, Marcela, Donde e' que e, Nande, Teresa and Maria Elena.

Concert promoters announced the sad news to fans just before he was scheduled to hit the stage.
