Lawyers for shamed former sports star O.J. SIMPSON have asked a judge to be lenient in his sentencing - because he is a "first time offender."
In October (08) Simpson was found guilty on 12 counts of kidnapping and armed robbery, stemming from a heist at the Palace Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last year (Sep07).
The verdict came 13 years to the day since Simpson was acquitted of the double murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman.
Simpson recently lost an appeal against the conviction and now his legal team have asked the star receive the minimum sentence of six years in prison, calling a recommendation of 18 years "inappropriate and knee-jerk."
Defence attorney Gabriel Grasso "Such a sentence (six years) would be a sufficient reflection of both the nature of the case as well as the first-time offender status of the defendant."
The 61-year-old former football star and his co-defendant, Clarence 'C.J.' Stewart, are scheduled for sentencing on Friday (05Dec08) and could face life in prison.
