Simon Pegg - Simon Pegg: The World's End avoids parody

Simon Pegg says 'The World's End' won't be a parody.

The British funnyman claims the final instalment of his wacky 'Three Flavours Cornetto' trilogy - following 'Shaun of the Dead' in 2004 and 'Hot Fuzz' in 2006 - won't be an obvious spoof of the thriller genre and will tie the franchise together with its message about personal struggle.

He explained: '' 'The World's End' isn't a send-up in any way, in fact, we've gone out of our way not to populate the film with references to other movies, in order to avoid that [parody] label.

''The theme that will bind the three films together is not parody or even ice cream, it's a preoccupation with the struggle of the individual against the collective. Shaun vs zombies, Angel vs the NWA, Gary King vs (???).''

The 42-year-old joker - who is reunited with Nick Frost and Edgar Wright in the new comedy - has big plans for the trilogy and hopes future drama students will pick the movies apart and write essays about the link between them.

Speaking to Blake London, he mused: ''Thematically, it will all make sense when the three films can be viewed consecutively. This sounds lofty but they form a dialectic sequence, which I hope film students will write essays about. 'Shaun of the Dead' = evolution, 'Hot Fuzz' = devolution, 'World's End' = revolution.''

'The World's End' also stars Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, Rosamund Pike and Paddy Considine and will be released on August 14 in the UK.
