Simon Cowell - Simon Cowell Sued By Simon Fuller Over 'The X Factor'
Simon Cowell's hopes of a smooth start for his new U.S. reality show 'The X Factor' were dashed on Wednesday (20th July 2011) when his rival Simon Fuller filed a lawsuit against Fox Broadcasting Company. Cowell and Fuller, recognised as the two most powerful television producers in Britain, worked together on American Idol.
According the New York Times, Fuller filed the papers in California Superior Court but Fox have yet to receive the suit. He alleges that Cowell and Fox went back on their promise to grant him an executive producer credit on the upcoming U.S. version of the X Factor, set to premiere in the fall. A huge success in the UK, the show is likely to enjoy similar popularity in America and a producer credit on the show would be hugely lucrative. Fuller specifically alleges that Fox agreed to make him executive producer on the X-Factor in exchange for him not suing the show for stealing his 'Idol' format. It states, "As often happens in Hollywood, however, binding promises made one day for expediency turn out to be cast aside when it comes time to perform".
Fox and Simon Cowell are yet to comment on the lawsuit, but the network say they will explain their position once they receive the documents. The music mogul will appear on the judging panel of 'The X Factor Usa', with L.A. Reid, Paula Abdul and NICOLE SCHERZINGER.
