Sienna Miller Pregnant: Actress Aims To Put 2011 Behind Her
2011 was a tough year for Sienna Miller, with the Factory Girl star embroiled in the News of the World phone hacking scandal. The widely publicised legal proceedings involved a High Court hearing in May 2011 and later in the year, Miller was a core participant in the Leveson Inquiry. During the inquiry, the actress had to reveal details of how tabloid journalists hacked into her voicemail and reported details of her private life in the daily newspaper.
With the case settled though (and Sienna receiving a £100,000 compensation pay-out), it looks as though Miller will be putting the troubles of 2011 behind her, as US Weekly have just reported that she is expecting her first child, with her actor boyfriend Tom Sturridge. The news may be a surprise to the general public but not to close family friends, apparently. According to the source, Sienna's friends "were not surprised by the news of the pregnancy, they're really good together." Presumably, Sienna's friends will be glad that she is hitting the headlines with a positive news story, considering the troubled past that she has had with the media.
Whilst working on the remake of the Michael Caine classic Alfie, in 2003, she began dating her co-star Jude Law. The relationship that ensued was a turbulent one and was played out in the pages of the daily newspapers and gossip magazines. Miller and Law became engaged on Christmas Day, 2004 but theirs was a celebrity wedding that never happened. News of his alleged infidelities surfaced, the wedding was called off. Although they got back together, every troubled minutiae of their relationship seemed to make its way into the public domain, whether it was Sienna's pets driving Jude mad, or Sienna disliking Jude's harmonious friendship with his ex (and the mother of his children), Sadie Frost. They finally split for good in early 2011, forcing the journalists to look elsewhere for news.
During this time, Miller had apparently accused friends of leaking news of her private life to the press. As the full scale of the News of the World scandal snowballed, though, the truth was eventually revealed to the actress - that journalists had hacked into her voicemail in order to obtain details of her relationship and other aspects of her private life. During the Leveson enquiry, Sienna spoke out about how she felt that she had been hounded by certain newspapers in the past: "I would often find myself, at the age of 21, at midnight, running down a dark street on my own with 10 men chasing me. And the fact they had cameras in their hands made that legal." The details revealed in the enquiry - which also involved the author JK Rowling and Formula 1 boss MAX MOSLEY seemed to cause a shift in public opinion regarding the treatment of celebrities in the media and whether or not their private lives are fair game for media speculation.
After such a turbulent few years, motherhood may well be the leveller that Sienna Miller needs. With a certain degree of vindication against the tabloids that have hounded her for so long, she can now move on from 2011 and put her troubled past behind her with a new boyfriend, her first child and a fresh start in 2012. And perhaps the same can be said of Peaches Geldof who has also announced that she is pregnant with her first child, with her fiance Thomas Cohen of the band S.C.U.M. At the age of 22, Peaches already has one failed marriage under her belt so will also, no doubt, be looking to remedy the negative attention that she has received in the press. The last few weeks have been awash with news of celebrity breakups - perhaps Sienna Miller and Peaches Geldof can, for once, fly the flag for positive change.
