Shia Laboeuf Took Acid For 'The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman'?
To explain his motivation for going to such extremes for the sake of a movie, he referred to Sean Penn's performance in Dead Man Walking and said "What I know of acting, Sean Penn actually strapped up to that (electric) chair in Dead Man Walking. These are the guys that I look up to." LaBoeuf admitted, though, that it was a tough job for the film's director, Frederik Bond to control him whilst he was high on set. "Sometimes it does get real," he said. "Too real for a director who's trying to keep a diplomatic set."
The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman will also star Rupert Grint, Evan Rachel Wood and Melissa Leo, though it's unclear if any of his co-stars decided to indulge in the illicit drug with Shia or if he was tripping alone. The film is expected to debut at the Sundance Festival next month and mars a shift in Shia's career focus, away from Hollywood blockbusters and towards independent movies. "There's no room for being a visionary in the studio system. It literally cannot exist," he has told The Hollywood Reporter. There's probably not much room for dropping acid on set, either.
