Shia Labeouf - Shia Labeouf Faced Death For Film Stunt

Shia Labeouf was warned he faced certain death if a dangerous bridge stunt for his new movie went wrong.

The Transformers star is seen dangling by one foot from a bridge in the opening scenes of new film The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, and the actor has now revealed he insisted on carrying out the ambitious stunt himself.

The scene was shot on location in Romania, and LaBeouf admits he was left fearing for his life while hanging over the river following a stern warning from the Eastern European stunt co-ordinator.

He tells USAtoday.com, "The guy says to me, 'Listen, the danger isn't really falling into the water. You might hurt yourself, but you'll survive that. But if you swing into (a neon light in the scene), there's no way you're going to survive that. So don't swing too much'..."

LaBeouf also insists he felt wary of the local stunt team because of the language barrier, adding, "You have to look them (the stunt team) in the eye and trust them completely, like you would on a Transformers set. But it's a very different group with communication issues. Not everyone even speaks English."

The movie's director Fredrik Bond also reveals LeBeouf wanted to feel real pain during the film's fight scenes and even insisted on having his head slammed into a wall: "That was for real. I said that I don't think we should do this, we need your head for the rest of the movie. But Shia said he had to (do) it... There was one take. One slam. I didn't even watch the monitor. I just asked my (director of photography) if we got it. Shia was hurting. But he was very happy."
