Shia LaBeouf’s exit from Broadway play, Orphans - which is set in Philadelphia and tells the story of two orphaned brothers who kidnap a wealthy man, played by Baldwin – has taken a new turn.

Since LaBeouf decided to release emails, after he quit the show, citing creative differences, Baldwin has expressed his displeasure. He is said to be “very disappointed” with LaBeouf for airing the emails, because, as he says, “you expect communications to be private, because everyone wants this process to be as collegial as possible. Everyone is very sad about what’s happened.”

Shia had tweeted screenshots of of the email exchanges between the play’s director, Daniel Sullivan, Baldwin and himself. In the emails, Shia apologised to Baldwin for his part of what he described as a "dis-agreeable situation.". To that, Sullivan said, "I'm too old for disagreeable situations. You're one hell of a great actor. Alec is who he is. You are who you are. You two are incompatible. I should have known it. This one will haunt me. You tried to warn me. You said you were a different breed. I didn't get it."

Baldwin to LaBeouf read: "I've been through this before. It's been a while. And perhaps some of the particulars are different. But it comes down to the fact that what we all do now is critical. Perhaps especially for you. When the change comes, how do we handle it, whether it be good or bad? What do we learn? I don't have an unkind word to say about you. You have my word." Shia’s response was pithy: “same. … good luck on the play. you’ll be great.”
