Sheen's Awkward Dinner Party Meeting With Blair
Actor MICHAEL SHEEN had an awkward meeting with former British Prime Minister TONY BLAIR at a 2009 gala - because it was clear the ex-leader wanted to grill him about the techniques the movie star used to portray him in THE QUEEN, THE SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP and THE DEAL.
Sheen recalls Blair was pleasant and "charming" but the actor felt sure there were questions the politician desperately wanted to ask him - but couldn't.
The Frost/Nixon star is also convinced that the former Prime Minister lied when he was asked if he'd seen any of Sheen's films, in which he plays Blair.
The actor says, "I didn't talk to him for very long; he was charming and exactly what I expected him to be like. He said he hadn't seen the films but I knew he would say that. If he says he has, then people can ask him questions.
"He was interested to know what our inside sources were... He was in a difficult position. He clearly wanted to talk to me about it, but there were other people there and they were all desperate to hear what was going on.
"And he was also wary of me as well, obviously, because I'm the guy who plays him. He knew whatever he said or did I'd be aware of or (it) could be used."
