Soul Singer Sharon Jones Is Fighting Cancer Again.
The leader of The Dap Kings was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013 and spent much of that year undergoing invasive surgery and chemotherapy to treat the disease.
She beat the cancer and made a triumphant return to music, and her journey was documented in a film titled Miss Sharon Jones!, which had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last week (11Sep15).
The screening was bittersweet for the star, who took to the stage after the film and revealed her cancer had returned.
Jones, who was joined by her oncologist Dr. James Leonardo, said, "I start chemo on Wednesday. But I'm gonna keep fighting. We got a long way to go."
Jones returned to the festival for the movie's second screening on Sunday (13Sep15), and addressed fans again, stating, "I'm going to do what I have to do. I'm going to sing... This won't prevent me from giving the people what they want."
