Sharif Has 'No Intention' Of Paying Up In Valet Row10 July 2008
The Doctor Zhivago star, 76, was leaving Mastro's Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, California when he tried to pay Guatemalan valet Juan Anderson for his car in euros.
When Anderson pointed out euros aren't a valid currency in the U.S., Sharif hit him in the head and called him a "stupid Mexican".
Last year (07), Sharif pleaded no contest to misdemeanour battery and was ordered to take an anger management course and fined $100 (GBP50). He was also sentenced to two years' probation.
Then, in February this year (08), Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Joe W. Hilberman awarded Anderson damages, including costs and legal fees - but Sharif has yet to hand over the cash.
And he has no intention of ever doing so, according to the lawyer who represented him in the case.
Attorney Martin Singer tells the Los Angeles Times, "His position is that the judgement is never going to be collected."
According to the publication, Sharif has no assets in the U.S., making it more difficult for Anderson to collect his payment.
