Singer SHAKIRA set up a charity to build schools in her native Colombia, because she'll never forget what it was like to have nothing as a child. As a young girl the UNDERNEATH YOUR CLOTHES star entered a life of poverty overnight, when her family went bankrupt. So Shakira founded the charity Pies Descalzos as soon as she had enough money to do so. She says, "I created the foundation because I've always promised to help the people of my country. There are so many kids living in extreme poverty. "When I was eight my parents went bankrupt so I went from having everything to having nothing. This change in my life affected me a lot. "As soon as I had my first international hit, I created the foundation. Today we have 3,000 kids who are housed, educated and fed."
