Shaggy - Shaggy's Dash For The 100 Metres Final

Shaggy will be running ''like Usain Bolt'' to see the Men's 100 metres sprint final on Sunday (05.07.12).

The 'It Wasn't Me' hitmaker is performing at the Respect Jamaica 50 series of concerts at The O2 on the same day the final takes place, and dashing between the venue and the Olympic stadium in Stratford to cheer on his friend and countryman in the final.

He said: ''I'm really into the track and field events. The 100 metres final is on the fifth, but I'm going to do my very best to get over there and see it. I'm going to be like Bolt myself, rushing to it then rushing over to the O2 for my own show.''

Shaggy is adamant that Usain - the fastest man on earth and current 100 metres World Record holder - will win Gold at the Olympics and will celebrate by dedicating a track to him when he performs that night.

He added: ''It's not if he wins, it's when he wins. I'm going to dedicate 'Love Mi Jamaica' to him that night.''

Shaggy - who was born in Jamaica and grew up in America, before returning in later life - is close friends with Usain and hangs out with him all the time in Kingston.

He added: ''Usain I know on a personal level, this is a guy who comes to my house for a cook out, and we eat fried fish and vegetables. We don't just talk about sports all the time, he's my buddy, a regular guy - we talk about cars, he really likes cars.'' Shaggy, 43, also likes the way Jamaica is seen as ''cool'' for its musical and sporting achievements.

He added: ''Jamaica is a cool brand. Music is one of the main things, you think about it, it's cool to be Jamaican, and I don't think that will change. It's an island that houses three to four million people but it has quite an impact on a global scale. Where sports and music is concerned, you know, we have a bobsled team and we don't even have snow.''

Shaggy is performing as part of the Respect Jamaica 50 series of shows at London's indigO2 at The O2, which takes place every night from now until August 6th with performances from Jamaican legends including Jimmy Cliff, Toots and the Maytals, Horace Andy and Morgan Heritage. Shaggy will perform on August 5. For more information and tickets, visit www.respectjamaica50.co.uk/
