It’s been revealed that Seth Meyers will replace Jimmy Fallon as the host of NBC’s Late Night show, with the popular chat show host, Fallon, moving up one hour to take charge of the network’s NBC show. They could’ve perhaps gone for a bigger name, but this appointment was expected, and as we ask ourselves who Seth Meyers is, it becomes pretty clear that, though not much of a marquee name, the incoming host is perhaps a shrewd choice by NBC.

You’ve got to give serious props to anyone who ascends through the ranks of the hugely popular entertainment s how Saturday Night Live and Meyers achieved more than most there. Joining the cast of the long-running show in 2001, he was elevated to writing supervisor in 2005 and the following year become co-head writer along with Andrew Steele and Tina Fey – and we certainly know how much pedigree Fey has currently. In addition to that, Meyers was moved onto Weekend Update, first as co-anchor with another burgeoning star, Amy Poehler, and then solo when she left the show during the 2008-2009 season.

Meyers has appeared frequently on Saturday Night Live, impersonating various figures, including Tobey Maguire, Ryan Seacrest, Sean Penn and Tom Cruise. A constantly lively and sharp writer, Meyers was given the credit for Tina Fey’s infamous Sara Palin impersonations during the 2008 election and his move to Late Night seems to be merely a full stepping out into the limelight himself, after years of providing the platform for others.
