Sean Penn Gives Stirring Speech After Receiving Peace Prize
Penn has become a key player in the efforts to rebuild Haiti, which has suffered the devastating effects from an earthquake in January 2010, which killed more than 300,000 and left 1.5 million homeless. According to the Associated Press, Penn used to his speech to urge the world community to remember Haiti and invest in the country's future, saying, "It's an overused phrase I know, but I trust you know its genuine today, I am humbled. I'm trembling and I like it", adding, "We have a very short window to support this team of the Haitian people's choosing". The actor warned that without proper aid, Haiti would become a harbour for drugs trafficking and terrorism.
Penn has always kept up his humanitarian efforts alongside his glowing movie career. He won his first Academy Award for Best Actor in 2003 for 'Mystic River' and his second in 2009 for 'Milk'.
