Scottish Fans Furious With Scissor Sisters Over Gig Go-ahead

The Scissor Sisters are facing demands for ticket refunds after playing a gig in Glasgow, Scotland on Wednesday (08Dec10) - even though most of the country has ground to a halt in the worst winter for almost 50 years.

Most of Scotland has been blighted by extreme snowfall and freezing temperatures for two weeks, closing businesses and leaving many people trapped in their homes.

Despite the big freeze, the Scissor Sisters decided not to cancel their show at the city's Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre on Wednesday (08Dec10), provoking criticism from fans who were forced to miss the show because of the weather.

One failed gig-goer tells Britain's Daily Record, "When folk are taking advice from the police and government saying not to risk lives then those people who can't make it should get a refund.

"The reaction from the promoters is nuts. They just don't want to compensate people. I've wanted to see the band for years and almost got in the car to try it but it is not worth the risk in these conditions."

Another adds, "The promoters don't have any consideration for the fans or their safety."

Before the concert, frontman Jake Shears told fans on his Twitter.com page, "As far as I know (the) show in Glasgow (is) going on as planned, but please don't come if it looks risky. Don't want anyone hurting themselves."

A spokesperson for the band's promoters has issued a statement refusing to offer refunds for those who stayed away, adding: "Last night the Scissor Sisters played a fantastic show to thousands of Scots fans. We do appreciate that there were some people who would have loved to have been at the concert but were unable to get to the venue due to the weather conditions. Both the band and the promoters regret that this was the case, they do feel however the fact that so many people attended and enjoyed the gig more than justifies the fact that it went ahead. We do appreciate that customers are looking to recover the cost of their ticket. We would advise that this is down to individual customers' insurance to recover this money."

Who wrote this article? Someone from the central belt no doubt. What a lot of codswallop! "Most of Scotland" what a complete misquote!!! I guess people from Edinburgh couldn't make it, but I came down all the way from the highlands, on the day, with no trouble!
