Scott Scotty Mccreery Makes History With 'Clear As Day'
MCCreery, who stormed to victory on series ten of 'Idol', sold 197,000 copies of his album in the first week of release. Previously, the youngest male to enter at No. 1 was Omarion with his record 'O' in 2005. Incidentally, Scotty also becomes the first 'Idol' champ to start their career with a No.1 album since Ruben Studdard released 'Soulful' in 2003. MCCreery's success opens up a potentially intriguing chart battle with 'Idol' runner up Lauren Alaina, who releases her debut record 'Wildflower' next week. The duo were rumoured to be dating while competing on the singing competition but played down the speculation at the time. Elsewhere on this week's chart, Tony Bennett's huge selling 'Duets' album jumps to No. 3, while British songstress Adele moves back up to No. 2 after selling a further 112,000 copies of her record '21'. Singer Feist shifted 38,000 copies of her fifth studio album 'Metals' and crept into the Top 10.
Scotty sets out for a series of live dates in November, firstly playing at the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minnesota, before heading to the James Brown Arena in Augusta and the Durham Performing Arts Centre in North Carolina.
