Saw Doctors Prepare To Kick Off 17-Date UK Tourby Contributor | 26 November 2008
Irish veterans the Saw Doctors are about to embark on a 17-date UK tour in support of their new single.
The band recently achieved their first Irish number one single in 17 years with About You Now, a cover of the Sugababes hit.
The rocked-up version of the song beat the likes of Pink and Kings of Leon to the top spot, the first time the Saw Doctors have reached number one spot in their homeland since Hay Wrap topped the charts in 1991.
"We first played The Sugababes song, About You Now, on the Podge and Rodge [radio] show" explained Saw Doctors guitarist Leo Moran, who says that the band decided to release it as a charity single to benefit the Salerno Cystic Fibrosis Fund in Galway.
And on November 28th, they will take to the stage at the Newcastle Tyne Theatre to begin a new set of UK concerts.
The tour includes two London shows at Shepherd's Bush Empire (December 5th and 6th) and finishes off up at the Manchester Apollo on December 20th.
The band celebrate 20 years in the music business this year - back in 1988 Mike Scott of the Waterboys discovered the Saw Doctors playing in the back bar of The Quays Pub in Galway and asked the Tuam Shams (as they were then known) to support the Waterboys on their Fisherman's Blues Tour around Ireland and the UK.
