Sarandon Loves Depressing Roles

SUSAN SARANDON relishes roles in depressing movies - because she loves cheering up her co-stars onset.
The Thelma & Louise actress has thrilled cinema-goers with a string of dark, gritty parts including a prison-visiting nun in Dead Man Walking and the mother of a seriously-ill child in Lorenzo's Oil.
But she refuses to let the bleak subject matter get her down - she's earned a reputation for keeping spirits up among the cast and crew during filming.
Sarandon tells Britain's Stella magazine, "The more depressing it is the more fun I am to work with, because I can't bear the idea of not having a good time, so Lorenzo's Oil was a laugh riot. I think you need to have a respite and anything that is really extreme becomes funny."
