Sandra Bullock Contemplated Quitting Acting
Sandra Bullock considered quitting acting after her marriage break-up.
The actress was left heartbroken when her relationship with husband Jesse James imploded in March 2010 following revelations he had cheated on her with several women.
The break-up came in the wake of her Best Actress Oscar victory for her performance in 'The Blind Side' and she was content to be a mother to her adopted son Louis until she was offered a role in 'Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close' by Stephen Daldry.
She said: "I was perfectly content to be permanently broken ... I honestly didn't think I was in a place where I wanted to work or wanted to step out of where I was. I wasn't prepared. But the opportunity was louder than my head."
Daldry personally visited Bullock at her home to convince her to star in the film, in which she plays the mother of a precocious child whose father - played by Tom Hanks - dies in the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
And the 47-year-old actress is delighted he pursued her in the way he did.
In an interview published in the Washington Times newspaper, she added: "What a great way to get back on the horse. It was hard, but it was what it's supposed to be."
During his visit Daldry asked her what she could bring to the role, to which Bullock replied: "'I haven't the slightest idea,' I said. I was like, 'The well is deep. It's your job to stop it or get it.' "
