The San Francisco Symphony has axed its East Coast tour of the U.S. as musicians continue to strike over an ongoing labour dispute.

Four concerts had to be cancelled last week (ends17Mar13) as symphony managers failed to reach a deal with musicians' union officials regarding salary increases, and now the walk-out has prompted organisers to pull plans for the leading classical group to perform in cities including New York and Washington, D.C. this week (begs18Mar13).

Brent Assink, the symphony's executive director, says, "We are deeply disappointed that the musicians have continued to reject proposals for a new agreement and that the musicians will not proceed with our planned East Coast tour."
