Samuel L Jackson - Samuel L Jackson Vs Critic: Avengers Star In Twitter Feud
Samuel L Jackson has become embroiled in a feud with the New York Times Film Critic AO Scott, on Twitter. In response to a recent review of The Avengers, written by Scott ahead of the movie's domestic opening this weekend, Samuel posted a message on his own Twitter feed yesterday that read "Avengers fans, NY Times critic AO Scott needs a new job! Let's help him find one! One he can Actually do!"
The relationship between actors and critics will always be a complex one and many Twitter users spoke out in defense of Scott, saying that he was entitled to his opinion, if it was an informed one. Possibly not expecting the backlash that ensued, Jackson responded to "TheFilmNest by saying "That is My Opinion! TheFilmNest & what's irrational about it? They aren't going to fire his jaundiced ass & You & I Know It! Scott himself decided to respond via E! Online, and told them "I don't think Mr. Jackson is actually trying to get me fired," he explained rationally. "Actors and filmmakers sometimes respond angrily to negative reviews-I can't say I blame them-and Twitter is a relatively new and very public forum for that. Rallying 'fans' against skeptical critics is a time-honored tactic, and I don't take it personally."
The review in question described the movie - which has largely received positive reviews thus far - by saying that "there are . overdone combat sequences. None of them matches, in cinematic wit or visceral surprise, a sucker punch landed by the Hulk on Thor's lantern jaw or a cartoonish smackdown delivered by that same angry green fellow on Loki, Thor's adoptive brother and this episode's main villain."
