Same Top Ten Shows -- But More Viewers

The list of the top ten television shows for last week was virtually identical to the previous week's list -- although there was a noticeable increase in the number of viewers among most of them. The No. 1 show, CBS's NCIS, attracted 18.3 million viewers this week, versus 17.3 million during the prior week. No. 2, The Big Bang Theory, landed 16.3 million viewers compared to 15.1 million during the earlier week. But ABC's Dancing with the Stars, in third place, saw its numbers slip to 13.5 million from 13.8 million the week before. The ratings for Fox's American Idol also continued to show significant erosion, dropping to 11.3 million viewers from 12.5 million previously for the Wednesday edition. The Thursday results show failed to land a place in the top ten among total views for the second week in a row. With little compelling news during the week, the evening newscasts saw ratings declines across the board. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams once again was the most-watched with 7.9 million viewers. ABC World News with Diane Sawyer placed second with 7.3 million, while the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley trailed with 6.2 million viewers. For the week, CBS remained the dominant network with a household rating of 5.9 and a 10 share. ABC placed second with a 4.4/7. Fox came in third with a 3.7/6, just ahead of NBC with a 3.5/6.
