The 'Brothers & Sisters' actress is in final negotiations to play Peter Parker's aunt in the re-boot of the franchise, while actor Martin Sheen is also about to close a deal to portray her husband, Uncle Ben.
The movie - which sees Andrew Garfield take on the web-slinging hero following three films with Tobey Maguire in the title-role - goes into production in December.
Emma Stone (Easy A) and Rhys Ifans (Mr. Nice) have also been cast in the Marc Webb-directed project.
Sally, 63, has a history of portraying motherly roles - as well as her recurring character Nora Walker in 'Brothers & Sisters', she is perhaps best known for the role of 'Mrs. Gump' in 1994 movie 'Forrest Gump' alongside Tom Hanks.
She was last seen on the big screen in 2003's 'Legally Blond 2: Red, White & Blonde' with Reese Witherspoon.
