A soiled porcelain toilet owned by legendary writer J.D. SALINGER is up for sale as part of a stomach-turning online auction, urging bidders to 'buy it now' for $1 million (£666,670).
A seller on auction website Ebay.com claims Salinger's toilet bowl was purchased from the new owners of the late The Catcher in the Rye author's home in Cornish, New Hampshire, and that it was "personally owned and used" by the writer.
The buyers of the home have even provided a letter of authentication.
The listing reads: "When he died, his wife inherited all of his manuscripts with plans to eventually release some of them! Who knows how many of these stories were thought up and written while Salinger sat on this throne!
"This vintage toilet is from 1962 and is dated under the lid. It will come to you uncleaned and in its original condition when it was removed from Salinger's old home!
"J.D. Salinger was notoriously private; he didn't make public appearances or speak to the press for the last 45 years of his life. May we find a better way to honor his legacy than with an unwashed toilet."
Bidding ends on 4 September (10).
Salinger passed away in January (10), aged 91.
