Sag/aftra Group Hammers Out Final Merger Plan
After nine days of intense negotiations, leading members of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists who formed The Group for One Union announced early today (Monday) that they had hammered out final details of a plan to merge the two unions. Details of the plan were not disclosed. The SAG board of directors will reportedly meet on Jan. 27 and 28 to vote on the plan; AFTRA's board will reportedly do so on Jan. 28 and 29. In a joint statement, the heads of the two unions, Ken Howard of SAG and Roberta Reardon of AFTRA, said, "We are confident our members will agree that we have created something we can all be proud of ... a strong foundation for a single union that will protect and strengthen the future for all our members."
