Sag Earnings From Tv Continue To Fall
The fallout from the Screen Actors Guild 2008-09 strike continues to be felt as studios and independent producers reject SAG and opt for contracts with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in developing TV projects. SAG TV earnings were down 8.2 percent last year and are now down 24 percent from 2007, the first full year prior to The Strike, according to Daily Variety . Since many TV producers now employ electronic equipment to shoot television shows, they can choose to deal with either AFTRA or SAG, and they are increasingly choosing AFTRA. (Shows shot on film require SAG contracts.) That is not the case with feature films, where SAG has exclusive jurisdiction. Feature film earnings for SAG members was up 5.7 percent in 2010.
