Sag Crowns The King's Speech

The King's Speech increased its lengthy lead in the Oscar race Sunday night as the Screen Actors Guild awarded the movie trophies for best ensemble acting (equivalent to Oscar's best picture award) and bestowed its best male actor award on the film's star, Colin Firth. Natalie Portman received the best female actor award for her performance as the schizophrenic ballerina in Black Swan . Supporting actor awards went to Christian Bale and Melissa Leo, both of whom appeared in The Fighter. Among the winners in the television categories were the cast of Boardwalk Empire in the Drama classification and the cast of Modern Family in the comedy classification. Steve Buscemi of Boardwalk Empire and Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife took home the actor awards for dramas, while Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock and Betty White of Hot in Cleveland grabbed the comedy statuettes. Winners in the TV movie or miniseries competition were Al Pacino for HBO's You Don't Know Jack and Claire Danes for HBO's Temple Grandin. On Saturday, the Sundance Film Festival awarded Drake Doremus's Like Crazy its top Grand Jury Dramatic Prize. Its best director award went to Sean Durkin for Martha Marcy May Marlene .
