Sacha Baron Cohen's 'The Dictator' Banned In Tajikistan?
The Associated Press reports that Tajikistan claims there is no room in the cinemas for the film, a director of the Tajik film distribution company commenting "We do not have space to show it.... We just cannot show all the films." This however is likely to be a load of stuff and nonsense, with film critic Lidiya Saidova reflecting "'The DICtator' will offend many people, it's not likely to be supported by our viewers."
It would be no surprise to Cohen if his film was banned across Central Asia, his 2006 flick 'Borat' suffered the same fate after showing the country of Kazakhstan in a negative light, although they since cited it as a reason for their increased tourism income. Turkmenistan has also banned the film, though it doesn't show any Hollywood films whatsoever anymore.
