Pussy Riot - Russian Punk Star Threatens To Go On Hunger Strike
Incarcerated Pussy Riot rocker Maria Alekhina has taken to cooking her own vegetarian meals behind bars and insists she'll starve herself if prison conditions become unbearable.
The Russian punk star was jailed last summer (12) with two bandmates after they were charged with hooliganism for performing a protest gig in a Moscow cathedral.
One of the girls has already been released but Alekhina, who is serving her sentence at a prison colony in the Ural Mountains, recently lost an appeal and faces an indefinite term behind bars.
Still defiant, the rocker tells the Novaya Gazeta newspaper she was placed in solitary confinement for 90 days in November (12) to protect her from other inmates.
The vegetarian reveals she has been cooking her own food from products provided by friends and fans.
She is quoted as saying, "I will survive, nothing will happen to me."
She also tells the publication she'll stage a hunger strike if she feels threatened by fellow inmates when her solitary confinement spell is over.
