According to ABC News, the comedian, 36, filed for divorce on Friday (December 30, 2011), with Perry apparently insisting he make the first move to disband their marriage because of her strict religious parents. Under Californian law, the couple must now split their earnings 50/50, given they have no pre-nuptial agreement. Although Russell is one of the most popular comedians in the UK and has a growing fan-base in the States, he is 'only' worth around $15 million compared to Katy's fortune of $44 million. Announcing the divorce last week, the star of Arthur said, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends". Speculation of a rift had been bubbling for some time, though the timing of the filing was surprising. Speaking to Abc News, senior editor of US Weekly Ian Drew said, "This split was something that's been discussed.Did she know that he would draw up papers during a holiday right before New Year's Eve? I think that was a big surprise".

While the Fireworks singer appears to be keeping a low-profile, Brand was spotted out-and-about in central London over the weekend and reportedly spent Christmas with friends in Cornwall.
