Russell Brand Father Facing Bankruptcy

Russell Brand's father is facing bankruptcy after accumulating more than £13,000 in unpaid rent.

However 67-year-old Ron Brand is refusing to ask his son for help, saying he would never want to ''burden'' him.

Ron is due to appear in Guildford County Court today, where a judge will decide whether to declare him bankrupt.

A friend said Russell will be devastated to learn of his dad's financial difficulties because although father and son have a sometimes strained relationship, they are currently on good terms.

The friend told the Daily Mirror newspaper: ''Ron would never want to burden Russell with his problems and would never dream of asking for money.

''It's a really stressful situation but Ron is ­determined to work through his problems.''

They continued: ''Ron's made a couple of bad investments and has struggled financially as a result.

''It's obviously upsetting but he's confident he can turn things around.''

Ron's debt relates to an apartment in Camden, north London, which he left last year, as well as to legal fees.

He now lives in an apartment in Farnham, Surrey.

An ''order of sale'' has already been applied for on his Surrey property, which would force him to sell to pay the debt.

However it is thought there isn't enough equity in to cover the full amount.

The 37-year-old comedian was six months old when his father split from his mother Barbara, leaving them in a modest home.

But the father and son continued to see each other, with Ron taking soccer fan Russell to his first West Ham game.
