Russell Brand Faces Charge Over Phone Throwing
The British funnyman turned himself in to police shortly after the incident in New Orleans, Louisiana and was reportedly facing a felony charge over claims he snatched a snapper's iPhone and hurled it through a window of an abandoned building.
However, reports now suggest Brand will be charged with a less serious misdemeanour count of criminal damage after officials at the Orleans Parish District Attorney's office decided to go ahead with the prosecution.
The charge will be filed against Brand on Wednesday (25Jul12), according to Tmz.com, and he faces up to six months in prison if convicted.
The comedian/actor previously brushed off the allegations by making a joke about the incident on his Twitter.com page.
He wrote, "Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory."
