Rovio Entertainment To Launch Angry Birds Star Wars

Angry Birds Star Wars will mark the next chapter of an incredible gaming story, reports NME. The bird-flinging franchise has teamed up with Lucasfilm Ltd. to bring gamers the ultimate sci-fi and gaming synthesis.

When Angry Birds first launched, Finnish Game developer Roxio Entertainment probably had no clue that their Birds v Pigs franchise would rise to such heights. Now, only a few years after its initial conception in 2009, it follows in the footsteps of giants like Lego in securing a Star Wars deal, which will see the Angry Birds themselves incarnate as famous Star Wars characters. Little versions of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca and Obi-Wan Kenobi will appear, while Darth Vader appears as a pig-like villain. Discussing the characters with USA Today, Lucasfilm representative Paul Southern said: "They are not Angry Birds dressed up as Star Wars characters. They are characters in their own right." To really push this franchise to the limit, i.e., make as much money as possible, the video game will be accompanied by a series of Angry Birds Star Wars merchandise, including soft toys, action figures and a special themed version of Jenga.

Angry Birds, since its initial iPhone-exclusive release, can now be found on all mobile platforms, desktop platforms such as Chrome and now on consoles, as an Xbox 360 physical copy of the game can now be purchased. The game has been downloaded over a billion times, and is the indie developer’s most successful game by a billion miles.
