Ross Bounces Back From Controversy With Bafta Mod

Television presenter Jonathan Ross has been nominated for a Bafta for his chatshow, less than six months after receiving a three-month suspension.

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross is up against Harry Hill's TV Burp, Stephen Fry for QI and Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in the best entertainment performance category.

Ross, 48, was suspended from the BBC for three months last year for his participation in the 'Sachsgate' scandal, in which thousands of people complained over Ross and Russell Brand leaving offensive voicemails for veteran actor Andrew Sachs.

EastEnders actress June Brown is up for the best actress prize, his first ever nomination from the Academy, and faces competition from Andrea Riseborough (for Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk To Finchley), Anna Maxwell Martin (for Poppy Shakespeare) and Maxine Peake (for Hancock And Joan).

Hancock and Joan is also nominated in the best single drama category while Ken Stott is nominated for best actor for his portrayal of Tony Hancock in the BBC biography of the late comedian.

Among Stott's rivals in the best actor category are young actor Ben Whishaw (for Criminal Justice) and Jason Isaacs, for his performance as Harry H Corbett in The Curse of Steptoe.

The nominees for the best drama series award are Doctor Who, Shameless, Spooks and Wallander while the best comedy performance prize will be contested between Rob Brydon (Gavin & Stacey), Sharon Horgan (Pulling), David Mitchell (Peep Show) and Claire Skinner (Outnumbered).
