Rooney Mara - Rooney Mara To Play The Lead In 'Brooklyn'
It's been announced that Rooney Mara will play the lead role in the British novelist Nick Hornby penned film adaptation of Colm Toibin's 1950s-set novel 'Brooklyn.' Mara will play Eilis Lacey, a young woman who can't find work in her native Ireland and so moves to Brooklyn, being torn between the two places as a result.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the project is being put together by the team that brought the Carey Mulligan-led 'An Education,' with producers Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey also on board with Posey's Wildgaze Films. Dwyer joins the company as a partner while novelist and screenwriter Nick Hornby, who is also Posey's husband, will "take a hands off role" in the set-up.
Having only made her big screen debut in 2005, Mara's career has really taken off in the past couple of years. A relative unknown when appearing in 'The Social Network,' based on real life social network Facebook and it's owner Mark Zuckerberg, she turned heads and then really went into the mainstream's consciousness with a stunning showing in 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' gaining nominations for Best Actress at the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards to name but two. It's fair to say that her joining the project is a major coup for the film bosses.
