The Rolling Stones - Rolling Stones Launch 50th Birthday App

Veteran rockers The Rolling Stones have proved they are still at the cutting edge by launching their first smartphone app.

The Brown Sugar hitmakers are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year (12) and to mark the occasion, they are giving fans the chance keep up-to-date with the band's news while on the move.

The app, launched in partnership with media company Endemol, allows fans to watch interviews and enter contests to win tickets for the group's upcoming concerts in London and the U.S.

The cell phone software will also enable the user to preview songs, connect with other fans, and vote for their favourite Stones track to be included on the setlist for their 50th birthday gigs.

Frontman Sir Mick Jagger tells The Hollywood Reporter, "We wanted to do something a bit special and innovative - an app that really connects with the user, lots of exclusive content, integration with social networks and the ability to make a song request for the upcoming shows."

Guitarist Keith Richards adds, "There'll be quite a few surprises in there for the fans - some behind the scenes footage, some old, some new stuff that very few people get to see. It's all part of a rather splendid celebration for us."

The band is due to play two huge shows in London later this month (Nov12) before heading to the U.S. in December for more concerts.
