Roger Ebert - Roger Ebert Apologises For Ryan Dunn Tweet

Roger Ebert has admitted he "was probably too quick to tweet" about the car crash that killed the 'Jackass' star Ryan Dunn and Zachary Hartwell on Monday (20th June 2011). Roger Ebert had incensed friends of Dunn after remarking, "Friends don't let Jackasses drink and drive", just hours after the reality star's death.
After coming in for heavy criticism from Dunn's best-friend Bam Margera, Ebert took to his official blog to issue an apology to those offended by the comments, admitting he was "too quick" to tweet. The prominent film critic noted, "To begin with, I offer my sympathy to Ryan Dunn's family and friends, and to those of Zachary Hartwell, who also died in the crash. I mean that sincerely. It is tragic to lose a loved one". Ebert continued, "I also regret that my tweet about the event was considered cruel. It was not intended as cruel. It was intended as true" Despite his reference to drink driving, Ebert explained he based his initial tweet on preliminary reports and admitted, "I have no way of knowing if Ryan Dunn was drunk at the time of his death". Despite his apology, the critic vehemently defended the anti-drink-driving message in his tweet, saying, "I do know that nobody has any business driving on a public highway at 110 mph, as some estimated - or fast enough, anyway, to leave a highway and fly through 40 yards of trees before crashing".
Roger Ebert temporarily had his Facebook page deleted today, reportedly because of malicious comments he began receiving on his 'wall'.
