Al Sharpton - Rodney King Laid To Rest
U.S. civil rights leader-turned-political pundit Rev. Al Sharpton delivered a touching eulogy at Rodney King's funeral on Saturday (30Jun12).
King was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, sharing the same burial site as Liberace and Michael Jackson.
A slide show of King's life was shown over an open casket, while Sharpton, who presided over Etta James' funeral earlier this year (12), spoke movingly about King.
He said, "People should not be judged by the mistakes that they make, but by how they rise above them. Rodney had risen above his mistakes, he never mocked anyone, not the police, not the justice system, not anyone."
King became infamous as the victim of a brutal beating by four Los Angeles police officers in 1991, sparking the notorious L.A. Riots.
His fiancee Cynthia Kelley discovered his body in their swimming pool last month (17Jun12). Police officers were called to the scene and unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate him.
