Rockers Play Karaoke With Inxs For New Hutchence Tribute

John Mayer, Rob Thomas and Ben Harper have teamed up with Aussie rockers Inxs for a tribute album to the band's late frontman Michael Hutchence.

Original Sin, which will hit stores and the internet in January (11), features the tragic star's hits performed by a group of famous fans and his bandmates.

Stand-out tracks include Harper's take on Never Tear Us Apart and a new version of Beautiful Girl by Train star Pat Monaghan, who jumped at the chance to perform with one of his favourite groups.

He tells USA Today, "When they asked what song I wanted, I pulled out a list of about 30.

"Some may have forgotten how great a band INXS is, but maybe this will remind them, and introduce younger fans."

The Stairs – featuring JD Fortune. I heard this new JD Fortune driven presentation of ‘The Stairs’ this week courtesy of great Canadian friends and it was almost like hearing it for the first time. The message that is, JD’s got such a credible way of capturing an awareness of musical messages via his delivery of lyric and I think on this particular project this talent really shines through, to the point of being dazzling. Well he dazzled me with this song presentation anyway. I really heard it and felt it and I wasn’t overly fond of it back in the heady “X” days of 1990. (I was a teenager.... LOL) What I also absolutely adore is the motivation behind this project holistically for INXS and as a contributing artist, for JD to have demonstrated his deeply respectful and loving energy towards Michael Hutchence’s and Andrew Farriss’s original song. That is to have stayed true and yet be creative and clearly demonstrate the depth of understanding of the song itself and the original album motivation. ‘A tribute to the life’s work of Michael Hutchence.’ Well this is my take on the original motivation anyway. It is an intelligent and deeply endearing decision for JD to have chosen ‘The Stairs’ in my opinion and his presentation is a fitting tribute to his bandmates both current and dearly departed. I’m sure that all of them must feel deeply chuffed on how this always amazing song has emerged post ‘re-imaging’ and I sincerely wish to congratulate INXS and all contributing artists on this MH Tribute Album ‘ Original Sin’.And for my fellow INXS Fan’s I encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity to hear this song when you can, with an open mind and be prepared to be dazzled. It’s was always a great song, I just wish I could be re-imaged and come out this fresh and awesome myself. LOLCheersMichelle

INXS frontman, JD FORTUNE, also has recorded a song on this album. His interpretation of “The Stairs” delivers a powerful and passionate message. The song is an exciting fusion of classic INXS and contemporary rock elements. JD’s strong vocals soar as the song progresses and then provides a hauntingly beautiful ending. Perfection!!“The Stairs featuring JD Fortune” is currently available as a single at iTunes Canada. If you live in another part of the world, you can hear an interview with JD and listen to the song itself at:boom973.com/music/features/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10154806

Get me to the nearest karaoke bar! I haven't heard the other tracks, but if J.D. Fortune's version of "The Stairs" for the upcoming INXS tribute album "Original Sin" is any indication, then this album is going to be a real gem. That song is AMAZING! I find the whole concept of this collaborative effort on the part of INXS, the super-talented J.D. Fortune, and the other artists you mention to be very intriguing. Can hardly wait for its release! I am hoping that J.D. Fortune will have contributed some other songs as well!
