Rockers Play Karaoke With Inxs For New Hutchence Tribute

JOHN MAYER, ROB THOMAS and BEN HARPER have teamed up with Aussie rockers INXS for a tribute album to the band's late frontman MICHAEL HUTCHENCE.
Original Sin, which will hit stores and the internet in January (11), features the tragic star's hits performed by a group of famous fans and his bandmates.
Stand-out tracks include Harper's take on Never Tear Us Apart and a new version of Beautiful Girl by Train star Pat Monaghan, who jumped at the chance to perform with one of his favourite groups.
He tells USA Today, "When they asked what song I wanted, I pulled out a list of about 30.
"Some may have forgotten how great a band INXS is, but maybe this will remind them, and introduce younger fans."

When discussing stand out tracks, we must absolutely include JD FORTUNE's rendition of THE STAIRS. It is PHENOMENAL!!!! It's obvious how this latest front man was an integral part in introducing, and in many cases, re-introducing this great band to a new generation. He is the HOTTEST F'N SAUCE and his performance of THE STAIRS is the latest evidence.

Original Sin is already available for download on Itunes Canada and Rob Thomas should really stick to performing his own stuff cos this song is unrecognizable and not in a good way.= Thumbs down :(JD Fortune please show Rob Thomas how that song should be performed. The Stairs with vocals by JD Fortune is also available on Itunes Canada and worthy of download. His vocal performance is outstanding on this song!!!5 stars!!! :)As a matter of fact he should have been the one singing each and every INXS oldie, cos his vocals would KICK it up a notch!!

I agree with the comments written here. Of all of the singers performing on this tribute, JD Fortune should be given top billing for his delivery. He performed the vocals for "The Stairs," one of INXS's most moving songs, as recognized by long-time INXS fans. This was quite an undertaking and only JD could have taken on such a challenge. He sang it passionately, lovingly and respectfully, and I can't stop listening to it. It is obvious how much he himself loves the song. He is the sole frontman enabling me to continue my 28-year love affair with INXS.

I have to agree...JD FOrtune is NOT getting the recognition he deserves. IF ANYONE saw the Vancouver Olympics 2010 and HEARD JD perform...you know what I am talking about. He was incredible. Beautiful Girl was better than the original, in my opinion. It was passionate, it was heart felt, it was pitch perfect! His newest release with INXS is The Stairs. It is RAPIDLY becoming number 1 on iTunes Canada. JD is really a force to be reckoned with. Not only with INXS, but his solo music is undeniably worth paying attention too.

This album also includes a beautifully interpreted version of The Stairs by JD Fortune, INXS frontman.JD truly takes Michael's lyrics and shines a bright light on them! The vocal delivery is masterfully done, and really brings the message home for the listener.Exceptional! Looking forward to the album release, and hope to see a full tour emerge out of the Australian wine country!Welcome back guys! You never do anything halfway...glad you aren't starting now.

Get me to the nearest karaoke bar! I haven't heard the other tracks, but if J.D. Fortune's version of "The Stairs" for the upcoming INXS tribute album "Original Sin" is any indication, then this album is going to be a real gem. That song is AMAZING! I find the whole concept of this collaborative effort on the part of INXS, the super-talented J.D. Fortune, and the other artists you mention to be very intriguing. Can hardly wait for its release! I am hoping that J.D. Fortune will have contributed some other songs as well!

INXS frontman, JD FORTUNE, also has recorded a song on this album. His interpretation of “The Stairs” delivers a powerful and passionate message. The song is an exciting fusion of classic INXS and contemporary rock elements. JD’s strong vocals soar as the song progresses and then provides a hauntingly beautiful ending. Perfection!!“The Stairs featuring JD Fortune” is currently available as a single at iTunes Canada. If you live in another part of the world, you can hear an interview with JD and listen to the song itself at:boom973.com/music/features/blogentry.aspx?BlogEntryID=10154806
