Robin Williams Rides Into Trouble In New York

Funnyman Robin Williams fell foul of New York's strict cycling laws after he was pulled over by police for riding on the sidewalk.

The comedian has been enjoying long rides on his bike as part of his exercise routine since undergoing open heart surgery in 2009.

But the 59 year old admits his new keep fit plan hit a bump when he failed to abide by traffic rules in the Big Apple, which requires cyclists to stick to designated bike lanes on the road.

In an interview on U.S. daytime show Live With Regis & Kelly on Tuesday (08Mar11), Williams said, "I ride bikes... I used to run, then my hips went, 'I don't think so!' So then the bike came along.

"Actually I was riding my bike in New York and I got pulled over by the police. I was one block away from the bike path and I was on the sidewalk. I didn't know there was a regulation in New York.

"(The cop said), 'Pull over!' No one else was on the sidewalk."

However, Williams managed to escape prosecution after the officer realised he was a big movie star.

He adds, "They didn't (recognise me) at first, it was really cold, I looked like a crack dealer!"

What a terrible reporting job from who ever wrote this story,, first off, that episode of the View was a rerun ! it was a repeat from 2 months before it aired when repored "this weeks View " in the article,,,, second off > when Robin Williams told the story to the View, he did say this happened to him a few years ago,, what a joke this story is,, made it sound like it was such a scoop ! LOL
