Robin Thicke Covers Whitney Houston's 'Exhale' After Arrest

Robin Thicke is among a number of stars who have recorded tributes to Whitney Houston in the wake of her death. Following his arrest for possession of marijuana in New York City on February 17, 2012, Thicke has recorded a cover of 'Exhale (Shoop Shoop),' the song that Whitney released in 1995, for the Waiting to Exhale soundtrack.

The original version of the track was a smooth R&B number with Babyface on production duties, whereas Robin Thicke has recorded a stripped down version, with piano accompaniment. It's an earnest reproduction of the song and it's unclear whether or not the choice of song is a sly reference to his recent arrest for smoking pot in a car in New York City. Other stars to have recorded tributes to Whitney Houston in recent days include the Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. He may seem an unlikely artist to cover Whitney's songs, but a video recording of him performing 'I Will Always Love You' to an appreciative crowd at a Barack Obama fundraiser in San Francisco has surfaced. The song itself was written by Dolly Parton and covered by Whitney for the soundtrack to The Bodyguard and was undoubtedly the star's biggest hit.

A number of stars performed at Whitney Houston's funeral on Saturday (February 18, 2012) including Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and R Kelly. At the Grammy awards the weekend before, Jennifer Hudson performed a cover of 'I Will Always Love You' in tribute to Whitney Houston, who had been found dead at the age of 48 just the day before.
